CEO Sleepout is a charity set up to fight homelessness and poverty. Sleepout’s fight is funded with money raised by executives who sleep outdoors for one night to raise sponsorship from their business contacts and friends.
This year, I’m going to try and help raise much needed funds. Here’s my story…
Those who know me know how much I love my sleep and home comforts; who doesn’t go to bed without cleanse, tone and moisturising? But for one night, I’m giving up my bed & beauty routine to sleep outside in the hope of raising awareness and funds for homeless people in Manchester.
I know there’s a lot of people raising money for causes close to their heart but if you have a couple of quid spare to sponsor my (no doubt) sleepless night, I’d be eternally grateful.
I’m off to checkout sleeping bags. In the meantime, here’s how I became involved in CEO Sleepout.
When MASH (Manchester Action on Street Health) contacted me about CEO Sleepout I’d already walked past 6 homeless people on the streets of Manchester that morning, and that was just one street.
Seeing makeshift ‘homes’ in the doorways of closed shops always makes me wonder how I’d cope living on the streets. If I woke up and was hungry, would anyone give me their change for some food? If I was desperate for the loo, where could I go? If I left my belongings, the little I’d have, would they be there when I returned? Would people see me as a nuisance and turn a blind eye to my existence? Would I survive?
I know it’s only one night I’ll be sleeping outside and the thought already fills me with anxiety. But what I do know is homelessness should be a thing of the past. I love my home city of Manchester dearly and if I can do this one thing to help raise awareness, and funds through your generosity, then my one night outside will be the beginning of my journey to help the city’s most vulnerable residents.
